Risk Assessment

Who or what are you protecting?

Yourself, others on set as well as any equipment being used. A good risk assessment takes all 3 of these things into account when detailing what could go wrong. If there’s anything that happens which causes damage to a person or thing that isn’t accounted for in a risk assessment its bad as both damage and possible lawsuits can come as the result.

What is Duty of Care?

“a moral or legal obligation to ensure the safety or well being of others” googles definition. it is basically an agreement to follow a risk assessment and be careful on set as to not cause any harm or damage to people or equipment.

What is a risk assessment?

A risk assessment is exactly what is says, an assessment of the risks while doing something. A good risk assessment takes notes of all the possibilities of damage to a person or equipment and is used to stop any damage or potential death, payment for new equipment when not necessary and even death.

What are hazards?

Hazards are anything that would be noted in a risk assessment. Hazards can be anything from a rock that could be tripped over, to a horrible thunderstorm that threatens the very life of you and anybody or thing nearby. Ill go more in detail as to why these things are hazards below

Weather:

Weather is considered as hazard as certain weather conditions can cause damage to both people (via coldness in wind, wetness in rain or potential illness the weather could result in) and and equipment whether (ha) that be water damage or the wind blowing equipment over

Tripping:

Tripping also causes harm to both equipment and you or crew members. Realistically, you want to keep the floor as clean as you can to reduce the risk of tripping as much as possible in case injury was caused or cameras etc got damaged/destroyed

Lifting:

Lifting is a hazard because of the fact a person can pull a muscle or injure them self in a similar way if whatever is being lifted is too heavy. Lifting can be done by multiple people to reduce the risk of injury for each person

Problems carrying a camera:

The risk of carrying a camera is the camera being damaged no matter how it happens. You wanna be super careful about all of the other risks while carrying a camera as nobody wants to lose money fixing or buying a new camera

Water:

Water is another hazard that is more of a risk to equipment than people. When filming around water, you want to be extra careful to make sure none of the equipment gets even a little bit wet as equipment can be easily broken.

What are risks?

” a situation involving exposure to danger” googles definition of risk. In this context, a risk would be anytime a person and or equipment would be exposed to damage of any sort
