Tell me about yourself, why are you interested in the course?
My name is Ethan Goodings and I like games. Growing up I played many consoles from the N64 to the Xbox 360 to the DS and many more and I’ve just always loved games and had an interest in them. It was only over the past few years I actually thought about games career wise as in my school my computer science lessons never engaged me (half the teachers fault but I wont go on haha). However as of last year and doing the level 2 course I now understanding the options in career next gen leads you into in the games industry and i’m excited to see where it takes me. I as a person have many things im interested in learning however with games i can incorporate skills such as drawings, music, modelling etc into a platform i already adore to play myself.
What’s your favorite game mechanically, and why?
I’d have to say dark souls because of how well structured the game is generally. The bonfires (at least in the first game before they get spammed around every corner) are extremely well placed, helping the player at exactly when they feel like a chunk of progress has been made. the bosses’s (for the most part) difficulty curves are balanced so you constantly feel like your character is gradually getting stronger and stronger as the game progresses, the normal enemies are even challenging in souls, sometimes more so than the bosses, but the bosses difficulty are so well scaled as the game goes on so that the player is always looking forward to their next grandiose fight with a huge monster, knight or whatever else the mysterious world of souls can throw at you. However I do think the argument can be made for Bloodbourne doing at least the bonfire part better, as instead of limiting your healing with giving you an amount of estus flasks and healing you only at bonfires except from the limited estus, you are allowed to buy blood vials from the hunters dream, which you can return to from any lamp (Bloodbournes bonfires). I’d say i’m on either side of the fence with this debate i just personally have better memories with Dark Souls
What’s your favorite game artistically, and why?
I’d have to say The Legend Of Zelda Wind Waker. While Ocarina Of Time (OOT) and Majoras Mask (MM) already had a fairly cartoony style, Wind Waker takes it to a whole new, beautiful level. The games art style just makes you feel good.
